"Sessa"

this painting is inspired by sessa, a small village in nubian sudan, looking out across the nile towards delgo. the boats move back and forth across the water, carrying people between the villages, while everyone waits along the riverbank, waving and hoping the next boat will be the one to take them across. it is such a simple, everyday moment, but one that holds so much life, connection, and familiarity.

sessa is my father's home village, the place where he grew up, so painting it feels like holding onto a piece of our family's memory. there is something deeply special about being able to capture a place that carries so much history and meaning for my family, especially as so many memories of sudan now live through stories, photographs, and the places we carry with us.

the nile is more than just water here. it is a lifeline that connects communities, families, and generations. it shapes the rhythm of everyday life, bringing people together as they travel between villages, wait along the riverbank, and watch the boats pass by.

this painting is my way of preserving a small moment of life in nubian sudan. a reminder of the quiet beauty, community, and connection that make these places feel like home.
