this painting captures four sudanese men sitting together in khartoum during maghrib, sharing conversation as the day comes to an end. it is a scene that reflects the warmth of community, the comfort of familiar company, and the simple beauty of everyday life in sudan. these gatherings were never just about passing time. they were moments of connection, where stories were shared, laughter echoed through the streets, and friendships were strengthened over cups of tea and quiet conversation.

for generations, these evening gatherings have been a familiar part of life across sudan. after the maghrib prayer, neighbours, friends, and family would come together to reflect on the day, discuss current events, reminisce about old memories, or simply enjoy each other's presence. while every neighbourhood had its own rhythm, this sense of togetherness was something that united communities across the country. these ordinary moments became the foundation of lasting memories and a reminder that home is often found in the people around us.

today, many of these familiar scenes have been disrupted by war and genocide. countless sudanese people have been displaced, separated from loved ones, and forced to leave behind the streets and communities they once called home. what was once an everyday moment has now become something many hold onto through memory and longing.

this painting is my way of preserving a piece of the Sudan so many of us remember. it is a tribute to the friendships, conversations, and peaceful evenings that shaped everyday life before the war. above all, it is a reminder that while places may change, the memories, culture, and spirit of our people continue to live on. may Allah bring peace back to Sudan and reunite its people once again.
